Studio Ninja Alternative for Indian Photographers

Why wedding and portrait studios in India are moving to a CRM that bills in rupees, accepts Razorpay, and delivers galleries — without stitching together three tools.

LEGAL REVIEW REQUIRED before publishing: brand collision with captura.io. Confirm the no-affiliation disclosure below remains accurate and visible.

Studio Ninja is a well-built photography CRM out of Australia — quotes, contracts, workflows, and a client portal that thousands of studios rely on worldwide. But it was built for the US/UK/AU/NZ market, and that shows up fast for photographers running a studio in India: pricing is USD/GBP/AUD only, the sole payment gateway is Stripe, and Stripe’s India onboarding has been invite-only since 2024. For a studio trying to collect an online advance from a Mumbai or Bengaluru client, that’s not a small gap — it’s a dealbreaker.

This page compares Studio Ninja with Captura, a studio-management platform built specifically for Indian photography businesses, so you can see where each one holds up and where it doesn’t. We’ve sourced every Studio Ninja claim from their public pricing page, feature pages, help docs, and verified user reviews (linked in our research), and every Captura claim from our own live pricing and product documentation.

One disclosure before we go further: Studio Ninja’s parent company happens to be named Captura Inc. (captura.io, based in the US, formerly ImageQuix, rebranded in January 2025). That is a different company from Captura (captura.pro), the Indian studio-management product this page is written by. The shared name is a coincidence of timing, not a partnership, ownership stake, or affiliation of any kind between the two businesses — treat any reference to “Captura” on this page as referring to captura.pro unless we explicitly say captura.io.

The payments problem is bigger than it looks

If you’re an Indian wedding or portrait photographer evaluating Studio Ninja, the deciding factor usually isn’t a feature checkbox — it’s whether you can actually get paid through the tool. Studio Ninja’s only payment gateway is Stripe, and Stripe has required invite-only onboarding for new Indian merchants since mid-2024, citing regulatory changes. PayPal, which used to be an option, has been closed to new Studio Ninja accounts too (existing users are being migrated to Stripe). In practice, that means a studio signing up for Studio Ninja fresh today can send quotes and invoices, but has no built-in way to collect an advance or balance payment online from an Indian client’s UPI app, Indian debit card, or netbanking. Captura collects client invoice payments through Razorpay, so studios can accept UPI, cards, and netbanking from day one without waiting on a Stripe invite. Stripe is used for Captura subscription billing.

India-specific GST fields still mean manual work at tax time

Studio Ninja’s tax handling is generic — a “Custom Taxes” field that studios in Australia, the UK, or the US use for GST, VAT, or sales tax respectively. There’s no India-specific GST invoice format: no GSTIN field, no HSN/SAC code capture, no CGST/SGST/IGST split, and no e-invoicing path for Indian returns (it does support EU e-invoicing standards like Peppol and Poland’s KSeF, added in late 2025 and early 2026, but nothing India-specific). For a studio that needs to hand India-specific GST invoices to a CA at filing time, that gap turns into manual reformatting for every invoice. Captura is INR-native and records a generic tax rate and amount, but it also does not currently provide GSTIN, HSN/SAC, or CGST/SGST/IGST fields.

CRM-only vs. CRM + galleries in one place

Studio Ninja is explicitly a business-management CRM — leads, quotes, contracts, invoicing, and client portal — not a delivery platform. It doesn’t include client galleries, digital downloads, or a print store; to deliver final images, you’d pair it with ShootProof or Pic-Time, adding a second subscription and a second login for you and your clients. Most Indian wedding and portrait studios we hear from want one system: book the client, manage the shoot, deliver the gallery, and collect payment, without juggling tools. Captura bundles CRM, galleries (with selections and share links), invoicing, and a studio website in one platform; People Grouping is an approved Business beta.

Where Studio Ninja genuinely holds up

It would be dishonest to pretend Studio Ninja is weak — it isn’t. Its lead pipeline and quote-to-contract workflow are mature and well-reviewed, e-signature contracts ship on every plan, and its workflow automation (including “Dynamic Workflows” that propagate template changes across linked jobs) is more advanced in places than many younger CRMs. It also offers free data migration and free 1-on-1 onboarding training on every plan, plus 24-hour in-app chat support and native iOS/Android apps. If your studio is US/UK/AU-based, bills in one of those currencies, and doesn’t need built-in galleries, Studio Ninja is a legitimately strong, focused CRM.

Support quality since the 2023 acquisition

Studio Ninja was acquired by ImageQuix (a Charlesbank Capital Partners portfolio company) in December 2023; ImageQuix rebranded itself “Captura” (captura.io) in January 2025, and Studio Ninja is now marketed as “Studio Ninja by Captura.” Several Capterra reviews from 2024–2025 describe a support slowdown and feature requests going unaddressed since the acquisition — one reviewer noted “promises are over a year old with no action,” another said asking about a missing feature “just goes nowhere.” That’s a pattern worth weighing if long-term responsiveness matters to your decision, alongside the fact that Studio Ninja’s home markets (UK/US/AU/NZ/CA/ZA) don’t list India, so support hours and priorities skew away from IST.

Our verdict

If your studio bills clients in USD, GBP, or AUD, doesn’t need built-in galleries, and values Studio Ninja’s mature quote-to-contract workflow and free onboarding support, it remains a solid, focused CRM — stick with it. But for Indian wedding and portrait photographers who need to collect payments in rupees via UPI or cards, track invoice tax amounts, and deliver galleries without a second subscription, Studio Ninja’s current setup makes that materially harder: no INR pricing, Stripe-only payments that are effectively closed to new Indian accounts, and no gallery delivery built in. Captura was built around exactly those gaps — Razorpay client payments, Stripe subscription billing, INR-native invoicing, and CRM plus galleries in one plan, starting free.

Frequently asked questions

Is Captura affiliated with Studio Ninja or its parent company Captura Inc.?

No. Studio Ninja’s parent company, formerly ImageQuix, rebranded to “Captura” (captura.io) in January 2025 — a separate US-based company with no ownership stake in, or partnership with, Captura (captura.pro). The shared name is a coincidence; this page compares the two products on their own merits.

Can I use Studio Ninja if I'm based in India?

Yes, you can sign up and use its CRM, quoting, and contract features from India. The practical limitation is payments: Studio Ninja only supports Stripe, and Stripe’s India onboarding has been invite-only since 2024, so most new Indian studios can’t connect a gateway to collect client payments through the platform.

Does Studio Ninja support GST invoicing?

Not specifically. It offers a generic “Custom Taxes” field used for GST (Australia), VAT (UK), or sales tax (US) — there’s no GSTIN capture, HSN/SAC codes, or CGST/SGST/IGST breakdown built for Indian tax requirements.

Does Studio Ninja include client galleries?

No. Studio Ninja is a CRM/business-management tool only; it integrates with third-party gallery platforms like ShootProof and Pic-Time rather than hosting galleries itself. Captura includes galleries, selections, and share links as part of the core plan.

How does pricing compare?

Studio Ninja’s Starter plan is $16/month (USD, GBP, or AUD only — no INR), capped at 5 active jobs with no online booking forms or automation; Pro is $27/month with unlimited jobs. Captura’s Free plan is ₹0 forever, and Pro is ₹999/month (or ₹9,990/year) with 350 GB of gallery storage included. Because Studio Ninja bills in a foreign currency, Indian cardholders also absorb forex conversion charges on top of the listed price.

Is Studio Ninja a bad product?

No — it’s a mature, well-reviewed CRM with strong contract and workflow tools, and it’s a reasonable choice for studios in its core markets (US, UK, AU, NZ, CA). It’s the India-specific gaps — no INR billing, no Razorpay, no India-specific GST fields, no galleries — that make it a harder fit for photographers running an India-based studio day to day.
